The Clay Bar and Prep Pads is the modern and safest and most effective way to deep clean your car's paint before waxing. Clay Bars and Prep Pads are used in the detailing, automotive reconditioning and auto body shop professions to remove paint over spray, tree sap and industrial fallout from the cars painted surfaces. It also works on glass, plastics, fiberglass, gelcoat and many metals.
Used properly, detailing clay and Prep Pads is completely safe and nonabrasive. It’s a much better option than compounding to remove these contaminants because clay and Prep Pads doesn't remove any paint.
The Clay and Prep Pads glides along the surface of your paint and grabs anything that protrudes from the surface. The particle sticks to the clay and Prep Pads and is therefore removed from your vehicle. The surface being should always be wet with clay lubricant to prevent loose debris from scratching the vehicle.
There are two different grades of clay and Prep Pads currently available to the public. Medium grade is more aggressive and will remove harsh, stubborn contamination, but may also create fine scratches that require polishing to remove. Fine Grade is formulated to correct surface contamination with out an aggressive approach. Fine Grade Clay and Fine Grade Prep Pad gently smooths, slicks and cleans your car's paint in one easy step. The Clay Bar and Prep Pads is most effective when it is applied with a clay lubricant to help it glide or hydroplane across the paint. The clay lubricant is what allows the clay and Prep Pads to slide over the paint without scratching it with the debris that it is picking up.
NOTE: To optimize both the quality of your claying and Prep Pads useful life, avoid soap and water as a lubricant. They will prematurely deteriorate today’s clay compounds.
Since Clay Bar and Prep Pads contains cleaning properties/abrasives and it will remove waxes, including sealants.
If Clay or Prep Pads seems to smear on the car, most likely you need to use more lubrication. If not properly lubricated, Clay and Prep Pads will stick to the surface, leaving residue. The Clay and Prep Pads may have also picked up a greasy substance, which it is smearing across the surface. The clay will remove the rough surfaces and make your car fell nice and smooth on the surface. However in order to really complete the removal of all finer scratches you will need to follow the detail clay and Prep Pads with some quality car polish and or wax.
